Day Camp General Information

Form Requirements

  1. Completed registration form along with the $400.00 deposit
  2. Completed emergency form at the time of registration
  3. Completed health form must be filled out by the camper’s physician and is due no later than Friday, May 19, 2017. Campers may not attend camp without a completed valid health form on file. All forms are available here.

Payment Terms

Payment Terms

  • Balance must be paid in full by Friday, May 19, 2017.
  • A 5% Early Bird Discount applies to camp fees if full payment is received by Saturday, April 1, 2017. The Early Bird Discount does not apply to the Extended Day Program fees.
  • There is a $25.00 Returned Check fee for any returned checks.
  • There is a $50.00 late fee to any balance past due after May 20, 2017.
  • There is no refund of camp deposits or fees for any reason.

Hours of Operation

Hours of Operation

Full Day Camp is in session from 9:00am until 4:00pm daily, rain or shine.

Camp is not in session on Tuesday, July 4th.

On Thursday, August 17th, camp closes at 2:00pm for all full-time campers.

Half Day Camp is in session from 9:00am until 12:30 noon daily, rain or shine.

Camp Groupings

Groupings

Each group has limited spots available for each session. Campers are grouped by the grade that they have just completed in June 2017.

Lunch

Lunch

Each camper must bring a disposable bag lunch daily. All lunches are refrigerated and returned at lunch time. Due to limited refrigerator space, no lunch boxes, thermos, thermal carriers are allowed.

Apple juice is available as a beverage at lunch; however, campers are welcome to bring their own drink in their lunch. Under no circumstances are glass bottles allowed. Water is available.

Each lunch bag must have the camper’s name and group number on it.

Snack

Snack

  • Snack is provided on a daily basis for all campers each afternoon.
  • The snacks vary from day to day and apple juice is provided. Water is available.
  • Campers may also bring their own snack in their back pack to enjoy at snack time.
  • Any child with food related allergies must provide their own food to eat for snack.
  • The middle school camp also has the privilege of going to The Italian Center Snack Shack at their own expense during snack time.

Swimming

Swimming

Every camper is expected to swim on a daily basis, unless medically excused with a written physician’s note. Each group, kindergarten through fourth graders, will have an instructional group swim lesson each morning, weather permitting.

The middle school camp will have 2 free swims daily, but no swim lessons.

Note: The Italian Center Day Camp encourages every camper to learn to swim and improve their skills. Our swim policy is “if the camper does not participate in the daily swim lesson class, then the camper is not permitted to participate in the free swim time.”

Extended Day Program

  • Early drop off begins at 8:00am.
  • This program is only available on a 2 week session basis, not day to day.
  • There is limited capacity. Campers must be registered for this program to participate.
  • The Early Bird Discount does not apply to Extended Day Program fees.

What to Bring Daily

  • All campers must wear sneakers, socks and play clothes to camp.
  • Each camper must bring a back pack with name on it to camp each day.
  • For safety reasons, Crocs, Sandals & Flip Flops are not allowed to be worn at camp.
  • Each camper must bring a swim suit(s) and towel for daily swim time.
  • Water shoes can be worn in the pool area for swim times.
  • A water bottle with name on it! Water bottles can be refilled throughout the day at various locations around the camp. Suggestion, use a regular water bottle and freeze it the night before and throughout the day, it will defrost but will remain cold for many hours.
  • Sunscreen bottle with camper’s name on it
  • For cooler days, a light sweatshirt or sweater

  • Please no cell phones!
  • No toys, books, CD players, radios, I-PODS, iPad, iPod Touch, game players, playing cards, trading cards of any kind.
  • No water shooting devices of any kind
  • No jewelry of any kind.
  • The Italian Center is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

Policies

Camp Policies

Disciplinary Action Policy

Any camper causing or becoming a disciplinary problem during camp hours which adversely affects the health, welfare and/or safety of others may be suspended or expelled from camp.

The Italian Center Day Camp has the right to dismiss any camper prior to the start of camp or anytime during the camp season, if the camper’s parents/guardians make unreasonable demands on the camp or mistreats any IC employee.

Sick Camper Policy:

Unfortunately the summer campers do get sick from time to time.  The following is the camp guideline and policy for when a camper is permitted to return to camp…

FEVER – Camper must have a normal temperature (98.6) for at least 24 hours

DIARRHEA – No loose stool for a period of 24 hours.

VOMITING – Camper must be free from any vomiting for at least 24 hours and must have resumed regular diet.

PINK EYE – Symptoms include itchy, redness, drainage or crusty discharge. Camper must immediately begin the medication once it is prescribed by the doctor and must continue the medication for 24 hours. Proof of treatment is required before the camper can return to camp.

STREP THROAT – Camper must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to camp.

Transportation around the Italian Center

The camp staff can not transport campers to/from any other program or function (member swim lessons, tennis lessons, swim team practices or any other functions) on the Italian Center property during camp hours.

Special Concerns or Circumstances

The staff would like to provide all campers with a fun safe environment. If there is any information that could be beneficial to assist the staff in helping your camper, it is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to provide the camp director with this information prior to the start of camp. This includes but is not limited to any medical condition, health concerns, social/behavioral concerns or any family situations.

At no time can the camp staff apply any sunscreen, insect spray or lotion on any camper. All campers are reminded throughout the day to reapply their sunscreen.

Lost & Found

Lost & Found

Please be sure that every towel, piece of clothing, back pack, water bottle, etc, is clearly labeled with the campers first and last name. If your camper loses something, please send a note to the counselor with a description of the item. Lost and found is usually displayed at the sign out table at dismissal for items lost on the day camp areas/fields or lower pool. There is also a lost and found area in the main building at the entrance to the ladies locker room for items retrieved in the locker rooms. There is another lost and found area in the outdoor middle pool lifeguard shed for items lost at any of the outdoor upper pools.

Parent Parking

  • Always use caution when traveling in and around the parking lots and roadways as it is extremely busy during the summer months.
  • Follow the signs for the “Picnic Area”, which is located on the lower Italian Center field.
  • Parent parking is across from the far end of the tennis courts. Follow the signs that are posted during camp as this area is “One Way”. Please pull straight into the parking spaces to pick up/drop off your camper. To leave you must pull straight ahead and exit on that “One Way” path. For everyone’s safety please do not ever back up.

There is also parking available on the outer far side of the roadway across from the tennis courts. There is no parking adjacent to the tennis courts, there are signs posted.

The Day Camp is located at the Italian Center picnic grounds on the lower field.

Campers drop off begins at 8:50am at the earliest. Only campers enrolled in the Extended Day program are allowed to be dropped off prior to 8:50am, no exceptions.

Camp morning announcements and opening ceremony begins promptly at 9:00am. At this time, all lunches will be collected and immediately transported to the refrigerators.

Any camper arriving to camp anytime after 9:10am must be brought to the Nurse’s station to be signed in to camp, his/her lunch will be refrigerated there and you will be directed as to where the group is.

Please note: to get to the Nurse’s Station prior to 10:00am, you must enter the main building through the membership / gymnasium entrance. The Nurse’s Station is located in the rear of the snack bar building next to the upper outdoor swimming pools. 

Camper Pick Up

Full Day Camper Pick Up

All campers must be signed out of camp by a parent/guardian daily. The sign out table is located at the entrance to the camp field. Camp groups begin to meet at the camp tables between 3:40pm- 3:50pm for dismissal.

If someone other than the parent/guardian will be picking up your camper, please send a note in to the counselor or call the camp nurse and we will make the counselor aware of the change. No camper will be allowed to be dismissed from camp without a parent/guardian signing them out.

All campers that will be leaving at any time before 3:40pm must be picked up and signed out at the nurse’s station. If you need to pick up you camper anytime before 3:40pm, please send a note in with your child and meet him/her at the nurse’s station to sign him/her out of camp. If you unexpectedly need to pick up your camper then please call the camp nurse and we will make every effort to have your camper at the nurse’s station when you arrive or shortly thereafter.

Pick up time is by 4:00pm for the Day Camp program and by 5:00pm for the Extended Day program. There is a $5.00 late fee per camper that will be assessed for every 5 minutes of late pick up after the designated camp closing time.

Campers with Allergies

Any allergies should be disclosed on the registration form and the health form.

Any camper with food allergies must provide their own snacks / foods on a daily basis.

The Italian Center Day Camp is not a peanut free environment.

There is a separate “peanut free” table for campers with these allergies at lunch time.

Permission to Administer Medications

The Italian Center Day Camp makes every effort to have a registered nurse on staff for the regular 8:30am to 4:00pm camp program. Only the nurse can administer any and all medication(s) that any camper may need to take during camp hours. In order for the nurse to administer any medication, the camper’s physician and parent/guardian must complete the Permission to Administer Medication form. If your camper needs to take any medication during the camp season while he/she is attending camp, this form must be completed and brought to the camp nurse or director prior to the start of camp on his/her first day of camp. This form must be completed for all medication(s) that must be taken on a regular basis and for medication(s) that are only to be used on occasion or in an emergency. All medications, epi-pens, Inhalers or any other medical apparatus must be delivered directly to the nurse by the parent or guardian. At no time should the camper come to camp with any type of medication without our knowledge.

In accordance with the State of Connecticut, Youth Camp licensing regulations, all medications must be in the original container with the original label from the pharmacy on it. Both the package and the form must have a photograph of the camper on it.

It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to pick up any unused medications, inhalers, epi-pens etc. on the camper’s last day of camp. Any remaining medications, inhalers, epi-pens, will be destroyed one week after the camper’s final day of camp.

On rainy days, there will be signs in the parking areas to direct parents that the camp will be based in the gym.

Please use the drop off lane outside the membership entrance. If you wish to park and bring your camper in, please park in the designated parking spots, not in the drop off lane. Camper sign out will be at the entrance of the gymnasium. Please park in designated spots only. Please do not park in the drop off lane or handicap spaces.

If it begins to rain and arrival/dismissal has already begun down back, the campers will be directed under the tent on the camp field.

Each of our sessions has various special events and activities.

Events are subject to change.

Full day camp events may include Camp Olympics, Scavenger Hunt, Make Your Own Ice Cream Sundaes, S’mores, Banner Parade, Song and Dance Festival, Tie Dye T-Shirt Day, Swim Carnival, Counselor Carnival, Wacky Wednesday, Pizza Party and Camp Trivia!

Half day camp events may include Banner Parade, Tie Dye T-Shirt Day, Swim Carnival, Pizza Day and Wacky Wednesday!
