About the Italian Center
On September 21, 1933 The Italian Center of Stamford, Inc. was chartered by the State of Connecticut. From it's origin as the Italian Social Institute, founded in 1909, to its present day location on Newfield Avenue, the Italian Center has always been an integral part of the Stamford community.
For over 30 years we
have hosted free
senior luncheons on
the first Tuesday of
each month, which
represents over 2000
persons on an annual
basis. Our
recreational and
catering facilities
are used to host
blood drives for the
Red Cross, monthly
swim sessions for
the local boy
scouts, fundraisers
for the Bennett
Cancer Center and
Stamford
Rehabilitation
Center and wine
tastings for several
local Italian
organizations.
In addition, we
annually donate food
and services and,
whenever possible,
make monetary
contributions to
several local social
service agencies
such as the
Connecticut Food
Bank, the Shelter
for the Homeless,
the New Covenant
House, the Salvation
Army, and the Red
Cross. During
the summer we award
financial aid
scholarships to
several children who
attend our Italian
Center Day Camp
program.
Our support of
Stamford youth
athletic programs is
also one that we are
proud of. Some
of these programs
include the Stamford
Babe Ruth league,
the Stamford Youth
Football Foundation,
other Stamford based
youth sports
leagues, locally
sponsored
scholarship programs
offered by other
Stamford based
non-profit
organizations and a
variety of other kid
based activities. At
various times we
have offered the use
of our facilities to
a boys hockey team
from Sweden, to
baseball players
form California,
Texas, Alabama and
Washington, and to a
girls soccer team
from Sweden.
Situated on 28 acres in a country club setting, today's Center is truly one of a kind.
Its year-round fitness and recreation facilities currently serve more than 1,300 families
representing over 4,900 members. Amenities include a six-lane indoor pool and spa, a full size gymnasium, fitness center, four outdoor pools, snack bar, 6 Har-Tru
tennis courts, 4
illuminated tennis
courts for night
play, 2 platform
tennis courts, its
own miniature golf
course and a large
playground area.
Very affordable
membership rates are subsidized by
the income generated
from our catering
business.
Members can choose from a
large variety of health and fitness programs for both children and adults including private or group swimming lessons, tennis teams and clinics, the Orcas swim team or just
hanging by the pool while your young ones play a round of miniature golf with their friends.
On the educational front,
the center is home to a fully licensed nursery school, which serves 3 and 4 year-old preschoolers. A balance of educational and physical development is provided during the traditional September to June school year. During the summer the
IC Day Camp
program is typically booming with upwards of 300 children participating in the
2, 4, 6 and 8-week summer sessions.
Italian language
classes for young
children and Italian
cooking classes for
adults are offered
as demanded.
Also, we provide
annual scholarships
to graduating
seniors from our two
public high schools
for proficiency in
the study of the
Italian language.
The IC Banquet and Conference Center has long been the choice of both the private and corporate sectors because of its dedication to personalized service, its affordability and the long standing reputation of its excellent cuisine. From weddings and private parties to fundraisers, corporate events and picnics the IC Banquet and Conference Center is one of Fairfield County's best-kept secrets.
