Stamford Girls “Say Yes to the Dress”

Stamford Girls “Say Yes To The Dress”

STAMFORD, CT-

On April 10th, hundreds of girls will have the opportunity to “say yes to the dress” at Kids Helping Kids’ annual Handled With Care Dress Boutique.
From March 1st to April 9th, Kids Helping Kids is collecting gently used or new prom, bar/bat mitzvah, homecoming, bridesmaid attire, and evening wear for girls ages 13-19. Kids Helping Kids is also looking to collect accessories such as bags and jewelry to complement the formalwear. Donations can be dropped off at Salon Kiklo at 126 Main Street, New Canaan, Connecticut; Vanity Studio at 225 Atlantic Street, Stamford, Connecticut; and The Italian Center at 1620 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, Connecticut.

The Handled With Care event will be held on Friday, April 10th at the Boys & Girls Club in Stamford, Connecticut (347 Stillwater Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902) from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Local girls will have the opportunity to browse through racks of dresses, try on their favorites, and say “Yes!” to a special dress of their own.

Additionally, this year Kids Helping Kids is providing girls with makeup artists to help the girls feel beautiful throughout the shopping process. Photographers will be available to capture each girl’s expression the moment she tries on her dream dress, giving the atmosphere a true runway feel.

KHK Founder and 2015 Newtown Act of Kindness Award recipient, Lexi Kelley (18) says, “Last year we served nearly 200 girls and this year the turn out is expected to be even more! It’s really exceptional that so many people throughout the community were willing to donate, giving the girls the opportunity to feel unique and beautiful.”

This year, Kids Helping Kids hopes to pass on the spirit of giving back to the community. Girls that attend the event will be asked to write down something small that they, in turn, will do for others. These pledges will be hung up on a board to illustrate the ripple effect of giving back that Kids Helping Kids wants to encourage.

“It’s one thing to do something nice for someone else, and it’s another thing to start a chain effect of kindness,” said Kelley. “This way, both the giver and the recipient of kindness feel empowered.”

About KHK: Kids Helping Kids (KHK) is a non-profit organization whose mission is developing leadership skills through youth-led service projects. We empower students to take their passion and turn it into action to make a difference in the lives of other kids! Kids Helping Kids’ programs are unique because every project is inspired, developed, and led by its youth members.
